Steelers' Jody Lehman could not stop a Belfast Giants comeback on Sunday |
Sheffield defenceman Steve Munn has told the Steelers to go back to basics after successive overtime defeats. The Elite League leaders suffered back-to-back home defeats by Cardiff on Saturday and Belfast on Sunday and the 30-year-old Canadian was not happy. He told BBC Radio Sheffield: "Something hasn't been right and it's time we sorted it out and this is the week we do it. "We've gotten away from our defence first and putting a solid 60 together." The Steelers still have a five-point lead at the top of the Elite league despite the two defeats at the weekend. On Saturday, Dave Matsos' side lost 4-3 in a shootout against the Devils. The Steelers led through Doug Sheppard, but Cardiff struck back in the second period. Voth scored on the power play for the Devils before Jeff Legue put the Steelers back in front. But Latuilippe and Jarvis put the Devils ahead. Brad Cruickshank's third-period goal tied the game at 3-3 to ensure overtime with Voth getting the eventual winner for the Devils in the shootout. On Sunday, the Steelers squandered a 3-2 lead against Belfast to lose 4-3 in overtime with Steve Thornton grabbing the winner for the Giants. The Steelers opened the scoring in the first period with goals from Robert Dowd and Ashley Tait. But the Giants tied the period though Bobby Robins and Evan Cheverie. Joey Talbot put the Steelers back in front in the second period but the Giants hit back with Paul Deniset taking the game into overtime.
