Coventry Blaze coach Paul Thompson believes his team are capable of winning silverware this season.

Blaze may only be fourth in the Elite League but they are in the quarter-finals of the British Knockout Cup and semis of the Challenge Cup.

"We might not be as good as teams we've had in the past," Thompson told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire. "We might be, we don't know.

"We're halfway through a year and nothing's been won yet."

Blaze have lost four of their last five matches but took Sunday's victors, and league leaders, Sheffield Steelers to overtime at the Skydome. And that performance has boosted the confidence of Thompson.

"They're a joy to work with," added Thompson. "Some things don't go right and we make mistakes but we'll get through it together.

"If they put performances in like that we'll win more games than we lose and we'll have a say in every single cup this year.

"Every single player in there cares and that's the difference."
