Nottingham Panthers player-coach Corey Neilson has backed under-fire netminder Davis Parley.

The 26-year-old has attracted criticism for some poor displays but helped the Panthers to a 3-1 victory at Newcastle on Sunday night.

Neilson told BBC Radio Nottingham: "Davis has some holes right now in his game and that's why we have the goalie coach here to fix them.

"I think his response, his work ethic and ability to learn has been spot on."

Panthers will be in league and cup action this weekend.

On Saturday they travel to Basingstoke in the Challenge Cup knowing a win will guarantee their place in the semi-finals of the competition they won last season.

Meanwhile Hull Stringrays visit the National Ice Centre on Sunday in the Elite League, it will be a first visit back for former player Konstantin Kalmikov, who signed for the Stingrays last month.

Panthers hope to be at full strength with forward Marc Levers expected to recover from injury.
