Dismal Bees shut out by Scimitars

Bracknell Bees

Bracknell Bees were shut out at home for the second time in a row as Sheffield Scimitars won by a single goal at the Hive on Sunday.

Lloyd Gibson's deflected goal just five minutes into the game, finding the net via Bees defender Ben Johnson's skate, separated the teams.

Bees, devoid of inspiration on home ice, rarely threatened the Scims' net.

Bracknell won 5-2 at Milton Keynes on Saturday, while Slough lost 4-3 at home to Peterborough in their only game.

The Jets sit third in the league as one of three teams on nine points, with Bracknell sixth on eight points, and Sheffield a point behind in seventh.

Paul Jones, Scimitars netminder and man of the match for the away team, dealt well with a number of Bees incursions but rarely had to produce an exceptional save.

By contrast Bracknell goalie Tom Annetts, making his first league start of the season, kept his side in the game time and again.

Annetts denied several Sheffield forwards in one-on-one situations to give the Bees some hope of forcing their way back into the game.

But Bracknell's attacking unit appeared dismally ineffective, Canadian forward Jeff Hutchins enduring a torrid night while youngsters Tom Duggan and Joe Greener struggled to create opportunities.

When Bracknell's Andrew Hemmings allowed the puck to slip through his legs, just feet from the net with seconds to play, the groans around the Hive signalled the end to an evening most home supporters will quickly forget.
