Gillies helped Sheffield to a Yorkshire Cup win over Hull

Sheffield Steelers new signing Nathan Gillies says he will do whatever it takes to help his team win.

The feisty forward arrives at the House of Steel following a spell in the East Coast Hockey League with Phoenix.

Gillies has got straight down to action, featuring in all of Sheffield's four pre-season matches.

"If a guy messes around then I will take care of business that is my nature, that is my family, that is my blood," he told BBC Radio Sheffield.

"I don�t want to fight every night. I am not a heavyweight, more of a middleweight.

"But if he wants to go then I will not back down, I don�t care how big or tough he is."

Although Gillies has only just arrived in Sheffield he has already been impressed by the standard of the club's British players.

"Jonathan Phillips has impressed me.

"But all of the British guys have stood out because they are more out going and are funny as hell."
