Sheffield Steelers have completed the signing of forward Nathan Gillies ahead of the new season. The 27-year-old Canadian will join up with his new club in August and believes the move to England has renewed his passion for the sport. "I've heard a lot of good things about Sheffield as a team and place," Gillies told BBC Radio Sheffield. "I needed a change and am looking forward to coming over. I'm really excited and hungry for the game now." It is the first time the forward has played in Britain, having spent last season with the Phoenix Roadrunners and the previous two-and-a-half years with the Charlotte Checkers. | Nathan is a guy who will give us grit, energy and who will make an offensive contribution Steelers head coach Dave Matsos | Steelers head coach Dave Matsos said: "I have been trying to sign this guy since I became the Steelers coach three summers ago. "There isn't anyone who has a bad word to say about the guy as a person, a player or a leader. "I looked at many different options, the out-and-out tough guy, the super-skilled forward but every time I kept coming back to Nathan, a guy who will give us grit, energy and who will make an offensive contribution."
