Ed Courtenay is getting tough with his Belfast Giants players
The Belfast Giants slipped back to their losing ways on Sunday night, just 24 hours after a thumping 7-1 victory.

Sean Starke and Brett Clouthier put the Phoenix 2-0 up before George Awada pulled one back for the visitors.

But Manchester surged clear thanks to goals from Tony Hand, Simon Mangos, Starke and Joe Tallari.

Belfast looked to be back on form after Saturday's easy away win over Hull Stingrays but they have now suffered an eighth defeat in 11 Elite League games.

In the run-up to the match in Hull, Belfast coach Ed Courtenay handed letters of two-weeks notice to every member of his struggling squad.

In reality, Elite League rules limit him to two departures but the axe still hangs over them all.
