More than 21,000 racegoers attended the final day of the season at York |
York Racecourse set a new record for annual attendance on the final day of the 2010 season. The total attendance for the year broke through the 350,000 mark for the first time, reaching 358,035. Attendance on the final Saturday was 21,531, which is up 11% on last year. Chief Executive William Derby said: "To set another record when the economic climate remains so challenging for everyone is testimony to the support we have received from race-goers at York. "It gives us great delight. "There is no single reason for the strong performance. We strive to offer quality racing and keep investing in the facilities and experience of coming racing at York. "Some days that includes additional entertainment however the racing is always at the heart of the day. "Whilst it is true that the weather has been kind to us this year, the record attendance is really a tribute to the hard work of everyone associated with the course and I would like to thank them for all their efforts to achieve this landmark."
