Madison du Berlais won last year's Hennessy Gold Cup

Newbury racecourse is coping well with the heavy rain on the eve of this year's Winter Festival, according to clerk of the course, Richard Osgood.

Osgood said: "We've done a lot of deep aeration work so a lot of the rain has gone straight through the ground.

"It'll probably ride slightly softer and quite often you find that sort of ground does change very quickly, but at the moment I'd hope it won't be heavy."

The festival's Hennessy Gold Cup will start at 2.40 on Saturday 28 November.
