Trainer Sir Michael Stoute and his jockey Ryan Moore could provide a feeling of deja vu on the opening day of Glorious Goodwood.

Last year the pair teamed up to take the feature race, the Betfair Gordon Stakes (1445 BST) with Conduit.

This time they are targeting success in the mile-and-half-long test with Harbinger, who has only ever run twice.

Although rated miles behind some of his opponents here, he is still likely to go off as a strong favourite.

"He pulled a muscle, and the physio said it was too tight to get him ready for Royal Ascot, so the Gordon became the target," explained Harry Herbert of the Highclere Thoroughbred Racing syndicates, owners of the colt.

"Physically, he is looking great now, and he's strengthened up during his break. He's entered in the St Leger, but we'll have to see about him staying that extra quarter mile."

The biggest threat to Harbinger could be from the ex-Aidan O'Brien-trained Masterofthehorse, who finished in the first four in both the Epsom and Irish Derbies.

Now owned by a businessman from Qatar and trained at Newmarket by Debbie Mountain, the colt runs at Goodwood prior to being aimed at a big race in France.

Other things to look out for on day one at Glorious Goodwood:

- Ryan Moore has a long list of good mounts, as well as Harbinger, and is favourite to be top jockey over the five days of the fixture. The best of the rest for the Sussex-born champion jockey could be Stoute's Main Aim in the Betfair Cup (1525), though Manyriverstocross (1635) and The Which Doctor (1710) are also well-fancied.

- South African raider JJ The Jet Plane has narrowly missed out in big races at Royal Ascot and at Newmarket's July Festival, and could easily give Main Aim much to think about when they meet for the second time this month.

- Glorious Goodwood is so named for its stunning Sussex scenery, effortless style and regular sunshine. Weather forecasters are advising it should be mainly glorious, though brollies should not left at home.

- You can follow Glorious Goodwood all week on BBC Radio 5 Live.
