Paco Boy strides to Goodwood win

Paco Boy, ridden by Richard Hughes and trained by Richard Hannon, won the Betfair Cup at Glorious Goodwood.

The 7-1 shot beat Stimulation in second and Dunelight who was third. Hotly-tipped Infallible came fourth.

Hughes was worried that his mount would struggle with the firm ground but said after Paco Boy's win: "He's some brave horse to go through with it."

Meanwhile heavily-backed Finjaan pipped Bonnie Charlie to win the Betfair Molcomb Stakes with Jargelle third.

The 5-1 winner, ridden by Richard Hills, was never far from the furious pace set by Rievaulx World and Super Sprint winner Jargelle.

"Martin Dwyer has been riding him in a lot of work and said he was one of the fastest two-year-olds he had ever ridden so we were quite confident going into the race," said Hills.

Earlier in the Gordon Stakes, 1-2 favourite Conduit sprinted to victory ahead of Donegal and Hebridean.

Speaking of Paco Boy's victory Hannon said: "He's been working very well and doing all his work with the horse that runs in the Sussex (Major Cadeaux) so we are obviously very happy.

606: DEBATE

"I thought he might have needed to be dropped in but he got a lovely, clear run."

Wednesday's races see the dual Guineas winner Henrythenavigator bidding to add to trainer Aidan O'Brien's Group One successes with victory in the Sussex Stakes.

The colt, who won the St James's Palace Stakes on his latest start, will be joined by his stablemate Windsor Palace.

The John Gosden-trained Raven's Pass, who ran Henrythenavigator close at Royal Ascot, will again do battle.

Peter Chapple-Hyam is double-handed with Tariq and Winker Watson, while Major Cadeaux from Hannon's stable and the Andrew Balding-trained Dream Eater complete the line-up.

Lush Lashes, from the Jim Bolger stable, who bounced back from a disappointing Epsom Oaks run with victory in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot, will aim for further glory in Saturday's Nassau Stakes.

But Promising Lead, trained by Sir Michael Stoute, who had been the ante-post favourite for the race, has been forced out after injuring a knee.
