Replay - Conduit wins King George Stakes Conduit clinched the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot as trainer Sir Michael Stoute achieved a clean sweep of the top three places. A well-timed surge by the favourite Conduit eased him past stable-mates Tartan Bearer and Ask. Golden Sword initially took on the running but two furlongs from home the Stoute trio emerged from the pack. Tartan Bearer briefly led but Conduit, ridden by Ryan Moore, swept past to win, despite a stewards inquiry. As Stoute's stable jockey, Moore had first pick of the trainer's rides for the race and Conduit repaid his faith with a classy run. | 606: DEBATE |
The 2008 St Leger and Breeders Cup Turf champion burst ahead down the outside of Tartan Bearer before claiming ground as the leading three came together over the last furlong. The four-year-old continued his charge towards the finish, opening up a gap of a length and three-quarters on his stable-mates. "I'm very proud of them - they've all ran great races. The others are top-class horses. They are lovely, sound horses," said Stoute. "It ranks very high among my career achievements - this is a bit special."
