Uttoxeter racecourse has reduced the length of the English Summer National race in an attempt to increase the number of entries.
The £60,000 showpiece event on Sunday, 28 June will now be run over three-and-a-half miles.
General manager David MacDonald told BBC Radio Stoke : "At this time of the year the going has an affect on entries so we hope this will help trainers."
Last year's race was won by Surface To Air, trained by Colin Bealby.
