York's late May meeting is the second since last August's Ebor wash-out
Thirsk trainer Allan Dickman achieved the biggest win of his career at York when Ishetoo won the Sportingbet.com Sprint Handicap at the Knavesmire.
The horse overhauled front-runner Peak District, trained by Kevin Ryan on the other side of Thirsk, to win at 12-1.
Dickman told BBC York: "The thrill is unimaginable. It's like scoring a goal in the FA Cup final. It's brilliant for a small stable, which we are.
"It's very difficult to have a runner at York, never mind a winner."
Peak District looked the likely winner coming into the final furlong, but jockey Jamie Kyne burst out of the pack to win the day's joint richest race by a neck.
"We've had no more than seven or eight runners at York," said Dickman, who trains at Breckenbrough House near the village of Sandhutton, part of Lynda Ramsden's former base.
Dickman once went 10 months without a winner between 2003-04. And, after Ishetoo's success in Saturday's Class 2 race, he added: "I've suddenly got a lot of friends now."
The win could not have come at a better time for Dickman, given the difficult economic climate.
"People are losing owners and people haven't got the money to spend on horses, so it's a marvellous thing to have a winner at York."
