Uttoxeter will stage the 40th running of the Midlands Grand National in March |
Uttoxeter is one of eight courses in the country to see a rise in crowds over the past year, despite the country being in the grips of recession. General manager of the course David MacDonald told BBC Radio Stoke: "We really are pleased with the figures. "Places like Towcester have reduced admission prices, and Hereford have reduced the number of fixtures. "We take time to treat people well, and it's very important that people know when racing is actually taking place." McDonald added that huge steps are taken by the staff at the course to ensure attendances continue to increase at the Staffordshire course. "We have a huge database and we put out over 250,000 leaflets every time we race," said MacDonald. "We e-mail and text people regularly just to let them know we're racing and I think we do that better than any other course in the country."
