Frankie Dettori rode Sixties Icon at Glorious Goodwood |
Sixties Icon is the ante-post favourite for the 230th St Leger after the latest declaration stage for the final English Classic of the season. The Jeremy Noseda-trained colt won the Group Three Gordon Stakes at Glorious Goodwood earlier this month, beating Marcus Tregoning's Jadelee, who has also been left in the 1m 6f contest.
In total, 20 entries remain in the 475,000 race, which is the world's oldest Classic.
But Linas Selection, as short as 10-1, has been ruled out after suffering a setback which could rule him out for the rest of the season.
The Mark Johnston-trained colt, who is owned by Renata Jacobs, was a creditable third behind Sixties Icon on his last start in the Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.
With traditional venue Doncaster closed for redevelopment, this year's St Leger will be held at York on 9 September.
Dante Stakes winner Septimus heads Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien's challenge for the race.
Septimus is one of seven entries from the Ballydoyle stable, which has won the St Leger three times in the past five years.
Other front runners in the ante-post betting include Great Voltigeur Stakes first and second Youmzain and Red Rocks.
The St Leger is one of the few races to so far elude Sir Michael Stoute but the Newmarket trainer, runner-up on five occasions, could be represented by both Ask and Book of Music.
The race has been held once before at York - back in 1945 when Doncaster was not in a fit state after being used in the war effort.
Entries for the Ladbrokes St Leger: Ask, Book of Music, Championship Point, Corum, Ermine Sea, Fire and Rain, Galient, Jadalee, Judge, Magicalmysterytour, Mont Etoile, Mountain, Puerto Rico, Red Rocks, Savannah, Septimus, Sixties Icon, The Last Drop, Tusculum, Youmzain.
