Ouija Board held off Alexander Goldrun by a short head |
Ouija Board just edged out Alexander Goldrun in a thrilling Vodafone Nassau Stakes at Glorious Goodwood. After Ouija Board's nightmare run in her last race in the Eclipse at Sandown under Christophe Soumillon, Frankie Dettori ensured she had a clear run.
The five-year-old hit the front three furlongs out and was battled all the way to the line by Alexander Goldrun.
A photograph was needed to split the pair before the Ed Dunlop-trained Ouija Board was declared the winner.
Nannina, ridden by Jimmy Fortune, was third in a high-quality renewal of the Group One race, which is worth 113,000 to the winner.

After the race, Dettori took Ouija Board in front of the stands to milk up the applause while last year's winner Alexander Goldrun, ridden by Kevin Manning, was given a huge reception in the unsaddling enclosure.
It was evens favourite Ouija Board's first run at Goodwood and her sixth Group One success but could be her last-ever race in Britain.
She is now due to travel to America for her third Breeders' Cup, having finished first and second in the last two runnings of the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf.
Dettori last linked up with Ouija Board when they finished second to Shirocco in June's Coronation Cup at Epsom.
"Ouija Board normally likes a target to aim at and we were out in front for a long time," said Dettori after performing his trademark flying dismount.
"But she showed real guts, she put her head down and really battled. It was a really emotional win.

"Take nothing away from the second and it's a shame there can only be one winner," he added.
"It was an amazing race to watch and I'm lucky enough to train the winner," said winning trainer Dunlop, who also saddled Court Masterpiece to win the Sussex Stakes, the meeting's other Group One race, on Wednesday.
Alexander Goldrun's trainer Jim Bolger said the Irish Champion Stakes was his filly's next target.
Borderlescott gave trainer Robin Bastiman the biggest win of his career when he was victorious in the 100,000 Vodafone Stewards' Cup.The four-year-old held, ridden by Royston French, took up the running a furlong out and held on by a neck from Mutamared.
Favourite Firenze ran on for third with Excusez Moi in fourth.
The first four home had all been drawn high and came from the pack on the far rail.
"This is my best day as a trainer," said Wetherby-based Bastiman.
"Everything went well, Royston produced him just when we wanted him to - near the finish.
"It would be nice to go to the Ayr Gold Cup with the owners being Scottish but the handicapper might have something to say."
