Rogers picked up three bronze medals in major competitions during 2010

Great Britain hockey player Chloe Rogers believes the team are closing in on the sport's leading nations.

The Leicester forward was part of the GB team that took bronze at the World Cup and Champions Trophy last season.

The 25-year-old from Barnston told BBC Essex: "It's a really close run thing between Argentina and Holland in the women's game at the moment.

"We're doing something right, we're getting closer to them and, on our day, competing with them."

She continued: "We beat Argentina last summer, drew with Holland and narrowly lost to Australia.

"It shows that we're heading in the right direction and are climbing the world rankings."

Rogers added that the squad's key focus was on scoring more goals, and that they were looking at both the Dutch and Argentinean sides as inspiration for improvement.

"You're always striving to be the best, so you have to look at the teams that are the best at the moment," she continued.

After a hectic 2010, which included a bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games, Rogers admitted 2011 is relatively quiet with just the European Cup in the Netherlands and the Champions Trophy in Germany, ahead of the London Olympics next year.

"We're starting to medal in the major competitions, which I think you have to before an Olympic Games," added the former Chelmsford star.

"You're not going to just turn up at the Olympics and hope to win a medal, I think we're slowly proving to ourselves that we can do it."
