GB women's hockey team come back to beat Germany

A strong second-half performance helped Great Britain's women come back from a goal behind to beat Germany 3-2.

The victory was Great Britain's second in as many days over Germany and a 12th win in 30 meetings against the side ranked fourth in the world.

Great Britain's goals came from Leicester's Chloe Rogers and a double from her club-mate Crista Cullen.

All three efforts came from second-half penalty corners as Great Britain penned Germany deep inside their half.

Germany's first goal came midway through the first period when Celine Wild picked up a quick through ball in space at the top of the circle and, turning on to her forehand, fired the ball past debutant Maddie Hinch.

Rogers netted the equaliser from a penalty corner when her low flick went beyond the outstretched right leg of Yvonne Franks and into the bottom corner.

Within three minutes Great Britain had turned the game on its head when Cullen's flick into the inside right of the goal seemed to catch the goalkeeper by surprise, putting her off balance and putting Britain into the lead.

Ten minutes later Cullen made it three for Great Britain when she slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Eileen Hoffmann set up a nervy final few minutes as she got the final touch on a driven pass from the left to make it 3-2 in the 63rd minute.

But Britain held on to record an impressive victory.
