GB came off second best in a tough encounter at Bisham Abbey |
Great Britain's women lost the opening contest of their two-match Test series against Australia 4-0. The Hockeyroos' patient approach paid off when Shelley Liddelow's low shot gave them the lead on 29 minutes. Four minutes later an unmarked Amy Korner found the corner of Abi Walker's goal and Nicole Arrold's penalty stroke made it 3-0 at Bisham Abbey. Fiona Boyce rounded things off for the Australians with a goal six minutes from time to cap a strong display. The final minutes saw Great Britain win three penalty corners but they failed to seriously trouble the Australian defence. Head coach Danny Kerry said: "We were not good in the attacking circle. We had lots of possession but were lightweight in the circle. "Australia were hard-nosed in our circle and we got punished. Our corners were very poor and if you can't deliver under pressure then tough."
