Herbert was unhappy with her performance against the Netherlands

Jersey hockey star Beckie Herbert believes the England squad is still upbeat despite losing 3-1 to Germany at the Champions Trophy in Sydney.

The loss means England are now in fifth place with just one point and face reigning champions Argentina.

Herbert told BBC Radio Jersey: "The overall feeling is positive although we're disappointed with how we played."

England started the tournament well drawing 2-2 against Olympic Champions the Netherlands on Saturday.

Herbert feels she played better in Sunday's defeat than in the opening round draw.

"I wasn't that happy with my performance in the first game against Holland, they had more possession and we didn't see a great deal of the ball up front so I found it difficult to get involved in the game.

"I was happier with my input today, I felt more relaxed and I think I had more of an impact on the game, but that said, I can still improve on some things and hope I can build on my performances game by game.

Herbert, who just missed selection for Great Britain's Olympic squad, says she is pleased to be playing for England at such a prestigious tournament.

"It's great to be playing a tournament with the England team again."

"Every game at the Champions Trophy is tough, especially in terms of the calibre of the opposition, there's no weak spots. "

England face Argentina on Wednesday, and Herbert is looking forward to playing the world number two team.

"We still have plenty of opportunity to take some more steps forward and hopefully get some more points on the board, but I'm just concentrating on trying to play well, do my job and enjoy the experience."
