Three Jersey special gymnasts make Athens World Games

Kiara O'Brien
O'Brien will make her international debut in Athens

Three Jersey special gymnasts and two coaches have been selected to represent Great Britain in the 2011 World Special Gymnastics Games in Athens.

Samantha Godel, 18, and 17-year-old Alex Buesnel have both enjoyed international experience, but for Kiara O'Brien, 15, it will be a first.

John Grady and Yana Vibert will be head coach and assistant coach.

All five are from the Jersey Special Gymnastics Club, and have been selected after performances during 2009.

In all, the Great Britain squad will have 18 gymnasts and five coaches.

The three Jersey gymnasts were nominated after their performances at the National Summer Games in Leicester 2009.

The next 14 months will see them working to maintain and improve their performances to prepare for these games.
