Welbourn has now won gold, silver and bronze medals in Iceland |
Lincolnshire swimmer Rob Welbourn has won a gold medal in the 400m freestyle at the European Paralympic Championships in Iceland. He took victory in a time of four minutes 9.15 second to claim his third medal of the championships. Welbourn, who won gold with the relay team at the last two Paralympic games, admitted: "This is my first individual gold medal and it means a lot. "I felt confident and at the halfway mark I just kicked really hard for it." But Welbourn, who won the race by more than six seconds, failed to add to his medal tally after finishing fifth in the 50m freestyle final.
