Hynd trains with able-bodied swimmers to push himself further |
Nottinghamshire swimmer Sam Hynd has broken the British record in the 100m breaststroke in the Paralympics. The 17-year-old finished in a time of one minute 17 seconds in the S8 category to finish third in his heat. He improved that time by almost two seconds to finish fifth in the final on Tuesday, eight seconds behind gold medallist Andriy Kalyna of Ukraine. The Kirkby swimmer will also be competing in the 50m, 100m and 400m freestyle and 200m individual medley. Hynd, who trains with the Nottinghamshire-based Nova Centurions, has a uromuscular myopathy which restricts the use of his hands and legs in the water. The teenager is making his Paralympic debut in Beijing.
