Cole is second in the Premier League's all-time scorers charts
Nottingham Forest striker Andrew Cole has been in action against Crewe reserves in a friendly played behind closed doors on Tuesday.
The 36-year-old has made just three substitute appearances since joining the Reds because of a calf injury.
Manager Colin Calderwood told the club website: "A big gap in the reserves fixture list has given us a problem in terms of getting players on the field.
"We managed to arrange this game with Crewe to help the likes of Andrew."
The former Newcastle United, Manchester United and England forward signed a 12-month contract with the Reds in July.
