Rising star Sam Hynd continued his build-up to the Beijing Paralympics by twice lowering his own 400m freestyle world record at the German Open.

The 16-year-old, who swims in the S8 class, had set a time of four minutes 31.33 seconds at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester earlier this month.

The Nottinghamshire swimmer lowered that to 4:31.08 in the heats and then to 4:28.81 in the final.

It gave him silver with Swedish S6 swimmer Anders Olsson taking gold.

"I felt good today," said Hynd, who will make his Paralympic debut in Beijing in September. "I kept a good pace throughout the race and everything was spot on for me. It has been a fantastic day."

There was also world records for Paralympic champion Nyree Lewis in the SB6 200m backstroke and for Jonathan Fox in the SB7 200m backstroke.

Lewis swam strongly throughout the race to clock a time of 3:04.27, beating her personal best by six seconds to win gold and and followed that up with silver in the 200m individual medley.

"It was a hard swim for me but I have been working with my coaches"

"I'm really happy with how I am performing at the moment and it shows me I am in the right place with the Paralympics just around the corner," she said.

Teenager Fox from Newquay recovered from a poor turn into the final 50m to break his fifth world record on his way to a silver medal.

The 16-year-old swam an excellent 100m but had to push hard through the final length to finish in a new time of 2:40.73.

"It was really good to get that record. It was a hard swim for me but I have been working with my coaches on the back end of my races and although I have a bad third turn I still managed to get the record," he said.

Heather Frederiksen claimed her second European record of the meet when she won the 400m freestyle.

The S8 swimmer took eight seconds off her personal best to clock 4:54.77 - just one second off the world record held by American Jessica Long. There was also a European record for Rachael Latham in the S8 200m butterfly.
