Norfolk-born Matthew Ellis is hoping to return with a medal after this year's Paralympic Games in Beijing. Ellis, from Thetford, will represent Great Britain in cerebral palsy (CP) football. It is the first time Britain has fielded a team since 1992. The 28-year-old now trains in Colchester and is confident of success in the seven-a-side tournament. "We've got the individuals, the team spirit and have had excellent preparation" said Ellis. Great Britain have been placed in a tough group with Iran, Ireland and current gold medal holders Ukraine, but Ellis says the squad are ready to challenge for a podium finish. "Hopefully this will leave us perfectly placed to cause an upset. | If we can get it right on the day we have the individuals in the team to beat anyone in the world |
"They are going into it with a lot more to lose than we have and we can just go out and play our game in the style we want to play." Great Britain are the lowest ranked team in the event having not competed since the 1992 Barcelona Games and Ellis says the squad have worked hard in getting to Beijing. "We've been developed over the last 18 months whereas most other teams have been building up to this for four years. "But if we can get it right on the day we have the individuals in the team to beat anyone in the world," he added.
