Rusty was third in May's National Archery Championships. |
Local archery champion Rusty Kneale-Barrow has received an invitation to join up with the Great Britain Development Squad for 2012. The St. Johns archer received the invitation following a fantastic 12th place in the International Invitational Disabled Archery Event in Aylesbury. Coach Joe Saxon said: "It has been a great week for Rusty. "This is another step on the ladder to a team place in the European World Championships and the 2012 Olympics." Both her shooting style and her attitude to competition impressed the Great Britain Team Management. The week-long competition was attended by teams from 12 countries and included shooting 72 arrows at a 70 metre target and head-to head matches. The St. Johns archer finished 12th and took the bronze award in the W2 category. She was also awarded the bronze medal in the Ladies Recurve event of the British National Championships. In May Rusty, who has been using a wheelchair since 1996, was awarded a bronze medal in the FITA Star event of the National Archery Championships in Dunstable. She also competed in an able bodied tournament in Eccles, which included competitors shooting 12 dozen arrows at a 70 metre target.
