 Shuker now turns her attention to the women's doubles |
British number one Lucy Shuker lost her opening match in the Roland Garros Masters Series wheelchair tennis event. The 28-year-old from Somerset had hoped to reach the semi-finals for a second succssive year but was beaten 6-3 6-3 by Holland's Aniek Van Koot. There were five breaks of serve before Van Koot held to go 4-2 up and then closed out the first set. World number 10 Shuker had break point to go 3-1 up in the second but Van Koot battled through to wrap up victory. Shuker now looks forward to her women's doubles semi-final on Thursday, when she pairs up with Frenchwoman Florence Gravellier against Dutch second seeds Korie Homan and Sharon Walraven. In the 2007 tournament, Shuker partnered Walraven against a pair that included Gravellier and they narrowly missed out on a place in the final after losing a deciding championship tie-break.
