Bingham wheelchair tennis star David Phillipson saw his Australian Wheelchair Tennis Open challenge come to an end on Wednesday. Phillipson, 19, made an impressive debut in Melbourne, causing upsets in the first round singles and doubles.
And the British number two put up another determined display against world number eight Martin Legner before losing 6-1 7-6.
Phillipson and Niclas Larsson then lost to Dutch second seeds in the doubles.
Phillipson's first-set score against Austrian ace Legner did not reflect just how well he played, as he came from 1-4 down in the second set to force a tie-break.
However, the experienced Legner just had the edge to win to two points on the tie break.
Having upset Dutch duo Maikel Scheffers and Eric Stuurman in the first round of the men's doubles, Phillipson and Sweden's Larsson put up another good performance in their quarter-final.
Phillipson, ranked 28th in the world this week, is now likely to have secured a new men's singles career-high ranking when next week's rankings are published.
He completes his first competitive visit to Australia at next week's Sydney International Open.
