Weir enjoys a fierce rivalry with Australian Fearnley |
British wheelchair racer David Weir got the better of fierce Australian rival Kurt Fearnley to win the World 5km road race title in Cedar Town, Georgia. Weir clocked a time of 10 minutes and eight seconds to beat Fearnley by one second with Marcel Hug third and fellow Briton Brian Alldis in 11th place.
Fearnley had beaten Weir to win last weekend's Long Island New York 10km.
In the women's race, Britain's Shelly Woods finished fourth with Anne Wafula-Strike in 14th.
The British quartet will now remain in Atlanta to compete in the Meet in the Heat and the USA Track and Field Championships later this week.
