Woods added the final medal to Britain's tally |
Shelly Woods dug deep to add marathon bronze to Britain's final medal tally on the last day of the IPC World Athletics Championships in Assen. The 20-year-old was trailing in fourth but took advantage when Swiss racer Edith Hunkeler crashed and she held on to take a gruelling third place.
"It was really hurting," said Woods. "I was trying to push hard to get a fast time and bronze is great."
Britain collected nine golds, nine silvers and nine bronzes in total.
The women's T54 marathon was won by Canada's Diane Roy ahead of Swiss racer Sandra Graf-Mittelholzer.
Britain's other representatives in the marathon, Bob Matthews (T11), Brian Alldis, Kenny Herriot and Tushar Patel (all T54), missed out on the medals.
