Scotland skip Frank Duffy gets ready to send another stone down |
Scotland beat Denmark 7-6 in a thrilling final to defend their world wheelchair curling title on Saturday. Scotland's win means that Great Britain will send a team to the event at the 2006 Winter Paralympics in Turin.
Denmark made the better start, picking up three points in the first end and they led 6-5 going into the final end.
But Scotland fought back superbly and solid work by Michael McCreadie and skip Frank Duffy gave their side two scores to seal a 7-6 success.
The Scots, who had won the 2004 title, also had to work hard in the semi-finals where they needed an extra end to beat Switzerland 7-4.
The event will be part of the Winter Paralympics for the first time in Turin and a five-strong British panel will be selected later this year.
"This is a fantastic achievement and I'd like to congratulate the Scottish team for their outstanding performances," said British Paralympic Association chief executive Phil Lane.
"Their success means we will already take a bigger British Paralympic team to Torino next year than we took to Salt Lake City three years ago.
"It also means we have a realistic medal prospect in Torino and an opportunity to build on our successes in Athens last year."
