NI athletes win European medals
Derry athlete Jason Smyth and Antrim man Michael McKillop were among three Irish medallists on day two of IPC European Athletics Championship.

Fastest qualifier Smyth equalled the world record when he won the 100m in 10.96 in the T37 Visually Impaired Category in Espoo, Finland.

McKillop won silver in the 1500m in the T37 Cerebral Palsy category.

Dubliner Catherine Walsh finished second in the F13 Visually Impaired category Pentathlon.

Smyth is competing in his first major competition for Ireland.

In other news, Eoin Cleare from Offaly failed to progress to the final of the F 32 Shot Putt and John Glynn failed to progress in the T54 Wheelchair, 100m after a time of 17.92 was not sufficient to get through the qualification stages.

Michael Delaney produced a jump of 5.49 below his seasons best of 5.87m in the F 12 Visually Impaired, Long jump event and failed to make it through to the final.
