Lloyd is ranked ninth in the PDC order of merit |
Colin Lloyd hopes to put in a stand out performance at the 2011 PDC World Championship at Alexandra Palace. The 37-year-old from Colchester has never been past the semi-finals in the competition and last made the final four in 2002. "That was moons ago and I want to have a run," he told BBC Essex. "It would be nice to have a run just to tell people I'm still around. It would be nice to have a quarter or semi-final and take it from there." Lloyd, nicknamed Jaws, is currently ninth in the PDC order of merit but his biggest success came in 2005 when he won the World Matchplay title. | I've got to go up there and try and stamp a bit of authority and hopefully get a result |
Andree Welge will be Lloyd's first round opponent at the World Championship, with the pair set to step up to the oche at 2045 GMT on Friday. "Andree's been around a long, long time. He's been a great ambassador for German darts over the years," said Lloyd. "He's got himself back to German number one, but, at the end of the day, he's the German number one but I'm the world number nine. "So I've got to go up there with that attitude, try and stamp a bit of authority and hopefully get a result."
