Adrian Lewis is the current world number six |
Adrian Lewis defeated Andy Hamilton to reach the last eight of the Players Championship at the Circus Tavern. The two Stoke-on-Trent players shared twelve maximums in a thrilling match, before Lewis sealed the game in the deciding leg with a 56 checkout. In-form Lewis will now face Australia's Paul Nicholson in the quarter-finals. Defending champion Phil Taylor is also through, although he was pushed all the way by Terry Jenkins before eventually prevailing 8-7. Taylor will play Colin Lloyd in the last eight, while the other quarter-final matches see Wes Newton take on Colin Osborne, and Wayne Jones up against Mervyn King. The tournament will be decided on Sunday evening, with the winner taking home a cheque for £60,000.
