Veteran striker Steve Fletcher and Anton Robinson were on target as Bournemouth saw off Crewe to end a three-game winless run.
Fletcher headed the visitors ahead from a corner after Lee Bradbury had seen his header cleared off the line.
Bournemouth made it 2-0 after the break when keeper Steve Phillips could only parry Brett Pitman's shot to Robinson.
Substitute Luke Murphy gave The Alex hope with a superb 20-yard volley but the Cherries held on.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent:
"I thought we looked dangerous and always likely to score today.
"I thought it was a really good spectacle and a really good game.
"I thought Steve Fletcher and Brett Pitman were a real handful today. Fletch was great in the air and Brett fed off him."
Crewe manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke:
"The old man [Steve Fletcher] did us twice and he was the difference. I think if he was playing for us we might have won.
"Their front two were always going to be a threat and in the end Fletcher has scored one and made one.
"That's the best Luke Murphy has played for a while. He looked composed from the start."
