Phil Taylor celebrates his tenth win in the World Matchplay |
Ledbury's Terry Jenkins was outplayed in the final of the World Matchplay as Phil Taylor claimed his 10th title with an 18-4 victory. Jenkins admitted it was very difficult to live with Taylor, who produced some sensational scoring. "If I could have held my own early on then I'd have stood a chance, but Phil is just incredible," said Jenkins. "Phil is not a normal person, he's an absolute phenomenon and what he does on a dartboard is amazing." Taylor produced an incredible performance as he averaged 106.05 to ease past Jenkins. He also hit a 10-dart finish and checkouts of 144, 121, 116 and a 104 championship-winning shot in picking up the £100,000 title. | I sensed a little bit of a weakness in Terry and I took advantage of it and put him massively under pressure |
Jenkins was condemned to defeat in a seventh major final with the loss, although claimed £50,000 prize money in consolation and also returned to fifth in the PDC Order of Merit. Taylor was understandably delighted by his performance and especially by the margin of victory. "I sensed a little bit of a weakness in Terry and I took advantage of it and put him massively under pressure," he said. "He wasn't hitting the averages during the event which I know he can do and hopefully he will go away from this and work harder at his game." Evesham-based Ronnie Baxter bowed out in the semi-finals of the tournament when he was beaten 17-12 by Jenkins.
