Phil Taylor is now just one point behind Mervyn King and James Wade

Phil Taylor returned to winning ways on night six of the Premier League, beating Wayne Mardle 8-4 in Manchester.

"I'm really pleased to get the win," said Taylor. "Wayne played superbly and I really enjoyed the challenge."

Taylor had lost to James Wade and drawn with Mervyn King in his previous two matches in the competition.

But the world number one is now third in the table, one point behind King and Wade, with John Part lying in the final qualifying spot for the semi-finals.

King fell to his first defeat of the competition, losing 8-3 to a resurgent Raymond van Barneveld.

Part drew 7-7 with Jelle Klaasen, while Wade beat Terry Jenkins 8-5 to continue his good form.
