Stompe did manage a maximum 170 checkout |
Sixth seed Co Stompe lost 4-2 to Brian Woods in the second round of the BDO World Championships at Frimley Green. Woods, seeded five places below the Dutchman, held his nerve in the tense closing stages to put himself into the quarter-finals.
Stompe, nicknamed "The Matchstick", had lit up the Lakeside with a superb 170 checkout to level the match at 2-2, but Woods fought back to seal the victory.
Meanwhile, Ted Hankey also went through with a 4-1 win over Andy Boulton.
The former world champion needed just 48 minutes to complete the victory, racing into a 3-0 lead after claiming nine of the first 11 legs.

And in Wednesday's other action, Australia's Simon Whitlock beat Holland's Fabian Roosenbrand 4-1 and England's Scott Waites beat Remco van Eijden 4-2.
Whitlock and Hankey will play each other in the last eight, while Woods's reward for toppling Stompe is a quarter-final meeting with Waites.
Stompe's early exit was not expected, but Woods said he was always confident of causing an upset.
"I knew that Co would be hard to beat but aimed to keep matching his scoring and then hit the doubles as he was missing them," said Woods.
"If I play my own game I am capable of beating anyone.
"The secret to my performances this year is that I feel more comfortable up on stage. I think it might be that I came through the playoffs during the past two years but qualified through the rankings this year."
