Adams wants back-to-back titles after waiting 14 years for his first |
Martin Adams stormed into the BDO World Championship quarter-finals with a 4-0 demolition of Martin Phillips. The defending champion required just 41 minutes to overcome his Welsh opponent, who was let down by poor finishing. "There is an expectation on me and you just have to try to do your best," said England captain Adams. Meanwhile, number one seed Mark Webster defeated Glenn Moody 4-1 and will meet Darryl Fitton in the last eight after he beat Gary Robson 4-0. Fitton, seeded nine, produced arguably the day's finest performance as he raced past Robson in 32 minutes, racking up seven 180s at Lakeside Country Club. | 606: DEBATE |
The 45-year-old reached the semi-finals in 2005 - losing to Raymond van Barneveld - and will fancy his chances of matching that achievement this time around after dominating Northumberland's Robson from start to finish. But standing in Fitton's path is Webster, whose winning margin did not tell the whole story. Moody gave a good account of himself, winning the fourth set in style and pushing Webster all the way in the fifth. Unseeded Robert Thornton, who faces Adams in the last eight, clinched a 4-2 win over Tony O'Shea, ranked fifth in the tournament. The highlight for the Scot was a clinical 170 checkout.
