English star Gulliver remains unbeaten on the Lakeside stage |
Trina Gulliver secured her seventh World Championship darts title with a final-leg victory over her arch-rival Francis Hoenselaar at Frimley Green. The Dutch player took the first set with Gulliver below par, but the 'Golden Girl' raised her game and drew level at 1-1.
The first two legs of the decider were also shared.
But in sudden death, Gulliver reached a checkout first and hit double 18 with her fourth match dart for the win.
"That was too close for comfort and I'm drained," said the 37-year-old Wantage-based player.
"I felt more comfortable and confident up there than in my two previous matches this week.
"I don't know whether that was because I know Fran's game but I knew we would have a battle. We always have a good game and we enjoy it.
"I looked at the trophy a couple of times during the match and thought, 'I want to take that back home' but at times I thought it wasn't going to be."
