From left to right, Sansom, Skillicorn and Fargher celebrate |
Tom Skillicorn put in two incredible descents to claim the Isle of Man National Downhill Championship at Tholt-y-Will plantation on Sunday. Skillicorn set the pace on the first run, completing the highly technical course in one minute 30.779 seconds. He then recorded an impressive time of 1:29.612 to guarantee the title. Russell Sansom finished second with a blistering first run timed at 1:37.98 and Gareth Fargher completed the podium just 0.149 seconds further back. Fargher's second run was over 20 seconds quicker than his first. Chris Sharpe used the incredibly fast conditions to his advantage to take fourth with Andrew Winstanley completing the top five. There was no junior category due to the severity of the track, which included several new jumps, step downs, and endless off camber rooted single track sections. Combined with the hot and dry conditions meant that the infamous course was unbelievably fast from top to bottom.
