Cavendish wins again in Missouri

Cavendish won four stages of this year's Tour de France

Mark Cavendish clinched his third stage victory of the Tour of Missouri, while American Christian Vande Velde retained the overall lead on Saturday.

Cavendish won the opening two legs to lead the Tour but lost his advantage to Vande Velde after stage three.

In the sixth leg from Herman to St Charles the 23-year-old sprinted clear in the final 50 metres to win in three hours, 32 minutes and 25 seconds.

Vande Velde finished 10th and retained an 18-second lead over Michael Rogers.

Cuba's Ivan Dominguez finished second and American Brad Huff was third, both in the same time as Cavendish.

In humid and warm conditions the field rode at a particularly quick pace and Cavendish said: "I looked for the others, but I didn't see anyone else.

"The peloton rode well today and I just used my team mates' help again."

The week-long race will be concluded on Sunday with the remaining 95 riders facing a 113km circuit race in St Louis.
