David Millar held on to seventh place in the overall standings following the fifth stage of the Paris-Nice race. The Scot, riding for the Saunier Duval team, finished 20th in the 178km leg from Sorgues to Manosque.
Ukraine's Yaroslav Popovych surged away from the leading group on the final climb to take victory in the stage.
Italian Davide Rebellin finished in the peloton to retain his overall leader's yellow jersey, 42 seconds ahead of Millar, who won Sunday's time trial.
Saturday's penultimate stage takes riders on a 200km trip from the town of Brignoles to the Mediterranean resort of Cannes.
The race ends the following day in Nice.
