Millar was banned for two years on doping charges |
A French court has dropped doping charges against former cycling time trial world champion David Millar. The Scot admits he took illegal drugs while riding for Cofidis between 2000 and 2003, the year he won the world title, and was banned for two years.
But the court in Nanterre ruled that as it was not clear whether Millar took the drugs on French or Spanish soil, criminal charges could not be pursued.
French courts only have jurisdiction for offences committed on French soil.
Former Cofidis physiotherapist Bogdan Medejak has been sentenced to one year in prison, nine months of it suspended.
Seven other accused, some of them riders, have been given suspended jail sentences of three to six months, the court added.
