Wiggins has claimed two prologue wins already this season |
Britain's Bradley Wiggins has been named in Cofidis' nine-man team for next month's Tour de France. The 28-year-old, who will now be among the favourites for the opening prologue stage in London, was not certain of his place in the team.
But victory in the prologue of the Dauphine Libere two weeks ago proved his credentials.
The Olympic pursuit gold medalist completed last year's Tour and finished 16th in the prologue.
Cofidis will have high hopes for other stage wins in the Tour, with Sylvain Chavanel, Nick Nuyens and Rik Verbrugghe all realistic contenders.

As widely expected, David Millar has also been confirmed in his team's Tour de France line-up. The Scot will spearhead Saunier Duval's challenge with Spanish climber Iban Mayo. Time trial specialist Millar returned to cycling from a doping ban in time to race the Tour last year, and this year is - with Wiggins - among the favourites to pull on the first yellow jersey of the race after the prologue.
