Riis hopes the testing will help in the fight against doping |
Team CSC will conduct nearly 800 drug tests on their riders next season as part of a new anti-doping programme. Cyclists will be subjected to surprise out-of-competition blood and urine tests for EPO, steroids and human growth hormone.
Team manager Bjarne Riis said: "Our ambition is to be pioneers in the work against doping."
Team CSC, the ProTour series' top-rated team, will begin testing at next month's training camp in South Africa.
"I am hoping this initiative will pave the way for other teams to follow and as a result help rid our sport of doping altogether," added Riis.
"I have no qualms about submitting our riders to the most rigorous tests out there because we want cycling to be a clean sport."
CSC were caught up in a Spanish doping investigation last summer which implicated their number one rider, Giro d'Italia winner Ivan Basso, who was barred from the Tour de France.
Basso was cleared last month by Italian Olympic and cycling officials and has now joined the Discovery Channel team.
