Ullrich adds the Swiss title to his 2004 success |
Jan Ullrich is in good heart ahead of another assault on the Tour de France. The 32-year-old T-Mobile star warmed up for cycling's blue riband event by winning the Tour of Switzerland.
"I wasn't in great shape in April but the Giro d'Italia and then all the climbing in Switzerland has changed all that," said the German.
He added: "I've done the best possible preparation for the Tour. I'm at 90% of my fitness but I'll find the remaining 10% with some training at home."
Ullrich won the final-stage time-trial to claim victory in the Tour of Switzerland on Sunday.
He clocked a time of 38 minutes 45 seconds for the 30.7km stage, 23 seconds ahead of Australian Cadel Evans, with Spain's Angel Vicioso in third.
Overnight race leader Koldo Gil finished 1:14 behind, which left him 24 seconds behind Ullrich in second place overall.
Germany's Joerg Jaksche took third place, with Vicioso fourth.
"I'm extremely happy to have won the last time-trial and the race," said Ullrich.
"The Tour of Switzerland is a tough race but both my team mates and myself rode consistently well on every stage."
Ullrich won the Tour de France in 1997 but never managed to beat seven-times winner Lance Armstrong, who retired last year.
