Billy Jackson was seeded 12 for this year's world indoor championships |
Lincoln's Billy Jackson is through to the World Indoor Bowls Championships for the first time in Norfolk. Jackson beat Nottinghamshire's Simon Skelton 8-3, 9-7 in the semis at Potters Leisure to book Sunday's meeting with Hereford's Robert Weale. He told BBC Radio Lincolnshire: "It is unbelievable. It has not sunk in yet what has happened to me. "I have bowled really well but Simon played well as well and the last set was a real battle royale". Weale saw off Mark McMahon 10-4, 8-3 in Saturday's other semi-final to book a meeting with number 12 seed Jackson, who admitted that it really was a dream come true. Jackson revealed that he had dreamt at the start of the tournament that he would face the Welshman in the final at the Potters Leisure Resort. "I've had three finals in the pairs over the last four years," he told BBC Radio Norfolk. "That's put me in good stead for the final. The nerves aren't there for tomorrow as they would be. "But a singles final, unbelievable, it's the old dream come true job." | I've never played Billy before in singles. He's a great guy. We get on well off the rink. |
When asked how the dream ended, he said: "I don't know, I woke up." Weale is no stranger to Potters finals, having won the event in 2000, but he says the most unfamiliar thing to him will be playing Jackson. "I've never played Billy before in singles," said Weale. "He's a great guy. We get on well off the rink. "Hopefully it'll be a good game and we'll still get on with each other tomorrow."
